Audi’s very own official press releases say that the powerful Audi TT RS will not be coming to the United States, but Motor Trend’s Audi sources state quite the opposite. According to insiders, the Audi TT RS has a very high chance of making it to the stateside.

Audi figures that a high-performance car like the 250-hp TT RS could be good for its image in North America. Not to mention a car that can compete with the likes of the Porsche Cayman S with a smaller price tag could lure in buyers.

We can expect the Audi TT RS to hit U.S. shores sometime this fall. Audi sources also said that the RS 5, which is expected to produce around 500-hp, will also make it to the U.S.

Toyota’s Lentz to raise concern about auto parts sector during auto task force meeting

It was immediately confirmed that Lentz will not be asking for any loans and is not trying to influence the Treasury’s decision on the U.S. auto industry.

However, it is now reported that Lentz will be raising concern about the state of the U.S. auto parts sector when he meets with the auto task force, a Toyota source said.

Unlike General Motors and Chrysler, Toyota has not been hit hard by the sales downturn in the United States. Nonetheless, Toyota does rely on many of the same auto parts manufacturers for its U.S. production facilities.

Lamborghini Insecta Concept is influenced by insect exoskeletons

Inspired by insect exoskeletons, the Lamborghini Insecta Concept is a design study of a 2-seater mid-engined supercar designed by Romanian Iulian Bumbu. Bumbu says that the design is also influenced by the brand’s current styling.

“Once again UAW members have stepped up to make the difficult decisions necessary to deal with the reality of the current economy, the deteriorating auto industry as a whole and specifically the negative impact the economic climate is having on Ford Motor Co.,” said UAW President Ron Gettelfinger.

Gettelfinger called for “shared sacrifice” to rebuild the U.S. auto industry. Ford said that the changes will help keep Ford from asking for emergency aid from the government.

Last month, CEO Alan Mulally and Executive Chairman Bill Ford Jr. voluntarily took a 30 percent pay cut to show UAW workers that they aren’t the only ones being asked to take sacrifices.

The fuel efficiency of the Fiesta Van is best in class: the petrol engine has combined fuel consumption of 49.6mpg and CO2 emissions of 133g/km. Both diesel engines have a combined fuel consumption of 67.3mpg- and CO2 emissions of just 110g/km.

The new Fiesta Van is available in three versions: Fiesta Van, the new “Trend” and “SportVan” with prices starting at £9,025 for the 1.25 Duratec 82PS petrol to £10,780 for the SportVan 1.6 TDCi 90PS with coated diesel particulate filter (cDPF). The addition of the Trend series is set to appeal to a wider group of customers. It is ideal for image-conscious businesses who may be delivering small packages, transporting compact equipment such as meter reading tools or for the site engineer who does not need a large capacity for tools.

Engines

The new Fiesta Van is available with a choice of engines: 1.25-litre 82PS Duratec 16 valve petrol unit and a frugal 1.4-litre 68PS Duratorq TDCi turbo diesel. The top-of-the-range 1.6-litre 90PS Duratorq TDCi turbo diesel is standard in the Fiesta SportVan. The closed-loop coated cDPF is optional on the 1.6-litre 90PS Duratorq TDCi turbo diesel on all series. Both diesel engines are built at Ford’s wind-powered plant at Dagenham, Essex.

Car becomes a van

A payload range from 490kg to 515kg gives customers a competitive option for transporting their products. The rear side windows are replaced by body-coloured solid panels, and the rear passenger seats are removed to provide a load box area of 1,000 cubic litres, with a maximum useable load length of 1,296mm, as well as a maximum load box width of 1,278mm (1,000mm between the wheel arches) and a height of up to 806mm. A half-height composite bulkhead and DIN-compliant tie-down hooks are standard.

New Fiesta Van is equipped with the acclaimed Ford EasyFuel capless refuelling system which is clean and easy to use and also has a mis-fuel inhibitor that prevents the wrong fuel filler nozzle being inserted. This feature is a major benefit to commercial customers, particularly for mixed fleets and vehicles that are used by multiple drivers.

This new model also inherits the best technologies and features from its car cousin including: a chassis designed for a safe and controllable ride under all loading conditions, the new Electric Power Assisted Steering (EPAS) for steering accuracy and lower fuel consumption, and anti-lock brakes (ABS) including Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD). Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) is available as an option with all engines (standard on SportVan) and includes Emergency Brake Assist (EBA).

BMW Certified Pre-Owned on track to a record 2009

BMW announced today that its certified used vehicles business in the U.S. jumped 24 percent in the first two months of 2009. Sales were up by 19,000 units and are on track to beat last year’s record number of 104,000.

BMW said that its sale program for 2009 is designed to further increase the share of CPO sales volume at BMW dealerships.

BMW selects models with less than 60,000 miles or that are less than 60 months old for certification. BMW provides warranty for every CPO vehicle for a total of 6 years/100,000 miles (whichever comes first) from the vehicle’s original in-service date.

Chrysler’s Jim Press: Things aren’t so bad, we’re doing okay

For February 2009 sales, Chrysler came out better than its Detroit rivals GM and Ford. Chrysler is now hoping that March sales come out better than February sales. Chrysler President Jim Press said that the company is extending all its February programs through March hoping to improve sales.
“Things aren’t so bad,” Press told AutoObserver. ”At 80,000 [...]

Press said that while Chrysler isn’t making money on those sales, he is hoping that the media and analysts look at retail sales instead of concentrating on the company’s fleet sales. He pointed at that Chrysler is not making money on those sales, adding that no one is in the current marketplace.

Press said that February incentives looked stronger than its rivals since it had more 2008 inventory to get rid of. He said that transactions for 2009 models “are pretty much in line with competitors.”

Chrysler reported a drop of 44 percent in February 2009 sales.

According to Automotive News, the concept could very well be the basis for the next-generation Ford C-Max.

Of course, the Ford C-Max isn’t sold in the U.S. but according to the iosis Max project head Patrick Verhee, the production version of the concept could be practical for the U.S.

The Ford iosis Max Concept is powered by a 1.6L 4-cylinder EcoBoost that produces 180-hp and returns a fuel-economy that is 20 percent better than a conventional gasoline engine. It is also equipped with a line of Ford’s fuel-saving technologies including a PowerShift transmission and the new Auto-Start-Stop system that is scheduled to debut in 2010.

Lagonda Concept gives first hint at Aston Martin, Mercedes-Benz cooperation

It’s no surprise that the reception of the Lagonda Concept by Aston Martin was … well, awkward. Not many liked the design of the concept that is said to revive the old luxury brand by 2012. However, according to Aston Martin Lagonda designer Marek Reichman, said that the “body language is avant-garde.”

Reichman confirmed that the Concept in fact shares its platform with the Mercedes-Benz GL, giving us the first hint at a closer Aston Martin and Mercedes-Benz relationship. Reichman said that the Lagonda Concept is the very first product of cooperation between Aston and Daimler.

It’s been previously reported that Aston Martin is working with Mercedes-Benz in a relationship that could spawn a hybrid Aston Martin, a full-range of Lagonda models, a possible DB10 and SUV from Lagonda.

Reichman said that with a GL platform, the Lagonda Concept can accommodate a range of diesel, V6 and AMG V8 engines as well as Daimler’s two-mode hybrid system. He said that the luxury Lagonda Concept is also capable of doing some off-roading on rough roads.

So will the Lagonda Concept enter production? Reichman says that so far this is all a test. “We are launching the Lagonda brand with a concept. But typically we have not done concepts that we have not put into production.”

With help from NASA scientists and some sophisticated technology, BMW is moving forward with its second-generation EfficientDynamics green car technology. According to CAR, BMW and NASA will work together in building what is known as a “thermoelectric generator.”
The technology, which is used to power satellites, will help boost fuel-economy in BMW vehicles by 5 percent says [...]

With help from NASA scientists and some sophisticated technology, BMW is moving forward with its second-generation EfficientDynamics green car technology. According to CAR, BMW and NASA will work together in building what is known as a “thermoelectric generator.”

The technology, which is used to power satellites, will help boost fuel-economy in BMW vehicles by 5 percent says BMW’s head of development Klaus Draeger. A thermoelectric generator converts heat between radioactive materials to generate electricity. When hooked up to a car’s exhaust system, a thermoelectric generator can generate about 200W of power.

“Some of the heat generated by combustion is converted to electric energy which is then fed back into the car’s power supply to feed high-demand systems such as climate controls,” Draeger told CAR Online.

Draeger says that the new technology will make it into BMW cars by 2014.

Swiss Gigolo jailed for six years after blackmailing BMW heiress

The Swiss man accused of blackmailing BMW heiress Susanne Klatten has been jailed for six years. Helg Sgarbi, known as the Swiss Gigolo, was convicted at his trial in Munich after trying to pull a scam in an attempt to squeeze millions of euros out of Germany’s richest woman.
Sgarbi was also convicted at his trial [...]

Sgarbi was also convicted at his trial for trying to scam three other unnamed women. He has reportedly extracted 7 million euros ($8.8 million USD) from Klatten.

Sgarbi threatened to release footage of their affair onto the internet. He apologized to Klatten in court but did not say where the alleged sex tapes are being kept.

Klatten owns a 12.5 percent stake in BMW.

BMW and Daimler to swap shares and boost cooperation

We’ve been hearing about a Daimler and BMW “cooperation” for some time now. Both automakers have been stepping up previous efforts to share cost due to the current economic downturn. A German magazine, Der Spiegel, is now reporting that the two automakers plan on swapping shares to boost cooperation.

We’ve been hearing about a Daimler and BMW “cooperation” for some time now. Both automakers have been stepping up previous efforts to share cost due to the current economic downturn. A German magazine, Der Spiegel, is now reporting that the two automakers plan on swapping shares to boost cooperation.

The magazine said that the Daimler and BMW will exchange a seven percent stake in each other. It said reported that the German government has been approached to find out whether it would overrule such a cross-ownership, reports Automotive News.

Der Spiegel said that the two automakers will announce full details shortly and that the move is expected to save the two automakers “several hundred million of euros” in the short term and billions in the mid-term.

There is some fear from the Quandt family which owns 46 percent of BMW. Der Spiegel said that family head Johanna Quandt and her son Stefan fear that Daimler will take over BMW as it did with Chrysler after a much talked about “merger of equals” in 1998.

The gasoline lineup will start off with a 2.4L 4-cylinder Theta II engine and a 3.8L V6 making 270-hp. A diesel version powered by a 2.2L will offer 200-hp and a fuel-economy rating of 33 mpg. All engine choices will be available with a new 6-speed automatic transmission.

For some time now, we’ve been told that the 2010 Saturn Aura will come to the U.S. as a rebadged version of the Opel Insignia. According to Automotive News, sources familiar with GM’s product plans say that the 2010 Opel Insignia will now come to the U.S. as the 2010 Buick Regal Sedan.

Of course many of you are wondering what would happen when GM sells Opel. Sources say that GM feels it would be in any future partner’s best interest to continue honoring the global architecture-sharing programs currently in place.

GM is expected to cut Pontiac product offerings and make Buick’s lineup focus more on sedans and crossovers. It said in its viability plan that if it could not sell Saturn by 2012, it will shut down the brand.

Obama’s auto task force to test drive Volt prototype today

As we told you last week, President Barack Obama’s auto task force will be headed to Detroit today to meet with executives from General Motors and Chrysler. Advisers Steve Rattner and Ronald Bloom will visit GM’s technical center in Warren and will also pay a visit to Chrysler’s truck assembly plant. They will also hold [...]

According to White House officials, the trip will also include a trip to GM’s test lab where the Volt is being developed. GM has also set up a test drive in the Volt prototype hoping to impress the auto task force. We wonder if Chrysler will setup a test drive of their 200C EV.

So far the advisers have spent more than two weeks (allegedly working day and night) holding meetings with industry executives and analysts.

GM and Chrysler are seeking up to $21 billion in additional aid. The two have already received a total of $17 billion in government loans. On March 31, President Barack Obama will decide to approve or reject restructuring plans that the two companies submitted in February.

Unique applications on the site, like a 360-degree view, give consumers a thorough perspective of the truck and allow them to get a closer look at the features and functions that make it such a capable off-road vehicle. By clicking over components unique to the Ford F-150 SVT Raptor, such as front shocks, engine, design cues and tires and wheels, visitors can learn more about what gives the truck its distinct personality.

Visitors also will get to see the truck in action, with videos demonstrating its capability in extreme terrain. One video showcases Raptor R, the racing version of the production Ford F-150 SVT Raptor developed by SVT and Ford Racing, by highlighting clips and interviews with key players from its successful racing debut at the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000.

In addition to the 360 view and videos, information and photos about the F-150 SVT Raptor will enhance the site. But these aren’t glamour shots. These are Raptors in action.

“There are not a lot of pristine photos. People will see mud and dirt on it, doing the things only the Ford F-150 SVT Raptor can do,” said Peterson. “Most websites have beauty shots, but we show how the truck is actually used.”

Visitors to the Web site also can request a customized brochure or build an F-150 SVT Raptor with the content they desire.

A high-end driving simulator also is bringing consumers closer to experiencing Raptor in its element – racing across the desert. Touring auto shows across the country, the simulator pivots on four axes: tipping forward, backward, moving side-to-side and going up and down, with the ability to spin 180 degrees. Actual engine recordings from the Ford F-150 SVT Raptor R race truck enhance the experience, while bumps and jolts when the driver goes off-course ensure a realistic ride

Designed using off-road footage, the race course and the desert landscape are projected on a screen in front of the driver. The course gives three unique experiences: a close course with tight turns, a rocky area and an open desert area with tracks to follow.

“If we can’t put people in a Raptor at an auto show, we can put them in the next best thing so they can see what it’s like,” said Brian Bell, Ford’s F-150 consumer marketing manager. “We want people to understand the unique capability of this truck, that it can do things that other trucks just can’t.”

Technology Transformation

The 2010 Escape will feature:

Integrated Spotter Mirror (standard) – a consumer-friendly, affordable blind spot technology that consists of an outside rearview mirror designed with a secondary convex spotter in the top outer corner, which is aimed exclusively at the driver’s blind spot. When traffic enters the driver’s blind spot on either side of the vehicle, it is visible in the secondary convex mirror, helping provide the driver broader peripheral view.

MyKey (standard) – allows owners to program a key that can limit the vehicle’s top speed and audio volume. MyKey also encourages safety-belt usage, provides earlier low-fuel warnings and can be programmed to sound chimes at 45, 55 and 65 miles per hour. This feature is standard on Escape models featuring a message center cluster, including XLT and above.

Rear View Camera System – uses an exterior camera embedded in the rear of the vehicle that sends images to a video display in the rearview mirror or the navigation system screen to help enhance visibility directly behind the vehicle when it is in reverse. Ford is leveraging the affordability of high-quality video cameras to widely offer the technology with navigation systems.

Active Park Assist – uses an ultrasonic-based sensing system and Electric Power Assisted Steering (EPAS) to position the vehicle for parallel parking, calculate the optimal steering angle and quickly steer the vehicle into a parking spot. The technology is a major leap forward in speed and ease of use compared with the camera-reliant systems offered by competitors. Ford’s system requires less driver interaction and reduces the risk of selecting a parking spot that is too tight. Ford’s Active Park Assist also works in downhill parking situations, unlike competing systems.

SYNC – Ford is expanding its connectivity leadership by introducing exclusive new SYNC real-time information features. The new Escape is one of the first vehicles to introduce this innovation – SYNC with Traffic, Directions and Information – which leverages industry-leading voice-recognition software, integrated GPS technology, and a customer’s Bluetooth-capable mobile phone. SYNC’s new services provide simple hands-free access to personalized traffic reports, precise turn-by-turn driving directions and up-to-date information including business listings, news, sports, and weather.

A recent study shows that SYNC’s hands-free system significantly reduces the level of distraction when drivers select a phone number or choose a song on their MP3 player compared with the same operations performed with hand-held cell phones and music players.

Chrysler’s SRT operation won’t get the ax

Kranz said that BMW has yet to decide whether the cars will wear a BMW badge or create another brand for the fuel-efficient premium vehicles. He said that the cars will initially be built in Germany but production in other markets is possible.

“They will be built by BMW in BMW factories – we wouldn’t consider outsourcing production to a third party,” Karnz said.

Auditors give GM substantial doubt, GM talks back

GM is currently waiting on hearing back from the government on a request of up to $16.6 billion in federal aid. Top executives said yesterday that if GM doesn’t receive $2 billion by the end of this month, it will run out of cash. They said the company needs another $2.6 billion in April to stay afloat.

The auditor rating of “substantial doubt” has led to some very scary headlines for GM, but the executives are talking back. CFO Ray Young said that GM is very carefully monitoring its global liquidity. The Detroit automaker lost $30.9 billion last year and ended 2008 with $14 billion in cash. That is about $3 billion more it needed to pay all of its bills.

Young said that the U.S. Treasury has not hinted on whether they will provide additional funding.

Steve Rattner and Ron Bloom, advisers to Obama’s auto task force will be heading to Detroit on Monday to meet with GM, Ford and Chrysler executives. The two will have a hand in helping the U.S. Treasury decide whether GM and Chrysler should get another $21.6 billion in aid.

According to AutoCar, the new concept has been re-badged as the zC and hints at a future model that will compete with the production Nissan Qazana recently seen at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show.

Sources familiar with the project said that the production version of the zC has a rear end that resembles the Lance Sportback with raised ground clearance. The production model, which is still three years away, will be built using the GS platform from the Lancer and Outlander.

LINEA Vincerò – Mansory refines the Bugatti Veyron 16.4

“Vincerò! Vincerò! ¬– I will win”, that is the self-confident exclamation from Nessun Dorma, probably the most famous tenor aria from Giacomo Puccini´s opera Turandot. And Vincerò is also the name of the latest automobile accessory line by refining specialist Mansory. Mansory already finds many parallels for the new name: The plot of the aria stems from a Persian tale of 1001 days which also relates to the standard motorisation of the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 with 1,001 hp. On the other hand, it should also refer to the origin of Kourosh Mansory, the founder and CEO of Mansory Corporation. And the opera has another reference to the offered product portfolio by ending after three acts. The LINEA Vincerò edition is also not infinite – the project is strictly limited.

It goes without saying that such a sonorous name is only suitable for an absolutely high-quality programme. Already the Bugatti Veyron serial edition sets standards in terms of price, maximum speed and engine power and leaves its competitors far behind when a contender for the super sports car is to be crowned. Whoever now thinks that everything possible has been achieved, can be proved wrong. Already visually, the changes clearly show. The front part gets a comprehensive face-lift including modified wings, a shorter hood and a striking front apron. The LED daytime running lights integrated in the front mount and the implemented stylised “V” as a special tribute to the name “Vincerò” draw even more attention to the car. The newly developed side skirts are the visual and aerodynamic connection between the axles. Larger air outlets at the sides and at the back render optimal engine cooling and in combination with the new diffuser, they underline the powerful car design. Mansory manufactures nearly all auto body parts from ultra-light and high-strength carbon. The applied hardening technique with strong pressure and high temperatures in the autoclave thereby enormously improve the material quality.

In order to perfect the entire visual appearance, Mansory devised new, striking fully-forged turbine-design wheels for the Linea Vincerò in serial dimensions.

Also, the power engine is refined by Mansory. Technical innovation is combined with technical expertise and thereby, an increased cooling air supply and optimised exhaust system produce an unbelievable 1109 hp and 1310 Nm.

Obama’s auto task force heading to Detroit next week

Steven Rattner and Ron Bloom will be heading to Detroit with members of the U.S. Treasury. A spokesman from the White House said that final details of the trip are still being worked out.

Chrysler so far has received $4 billion in government loans and says it needs another $5 billion by the end of March.

The Spyker C8 Aileron is powered by an Audi 4.2L V8 engine making 400-hp with a maximum torque of 354 lb-ft. It is mated to a 6-speed Getrag manual gearbox as standard but buyers can also opt for a ZF 6-speed automatic gearbox which comes with paddle shifters behind the steering wheel. Alpina has taken the wraps off of its latest creation - the BMW Alpina B7 B-Turbo. The fourth-generation model is based on the new 2009 BMW 7-Series and gets an aggressive new body kit along with a powerful 4.4L V8.

That engine gives the BMW Alpina B7 Bi-Turbo a total of 507-hp with a maximum torque of 516 lb-ft. It allows for a 0 to 62 mph times of 4.7 seconds with a top speed that is electronically-limited to 174 mph. Power is transferred to the wheels through ZF 6-speed automatic which also uses Alpina’s Switch-Tronic system to adapt to the driving conditions.

The previous Alpina B7 was available in the U.S. in limited numbers through BMW dealers. There is no word whether the new fourth-generation 2009 BMW Alpina B7 Bi-Turbo will come to the United States.

With the new BMW ALPINA B7 Bi-Turbo, ALPINA presents its fourth generation of automobiles based on the BMW 7 Series. Prominent predecessors include the BMW ALPINA B12 6.0 and B7, which raised the bar in the high-performance luxury saloon segment. Newly interpreted and in every way state-of-the-art, the B7 Bi-Turbo unites exclusiveness, athleticism and comfort in perfect harmony.

Yielding exquisite levels of torque and power from the charged 4.4 litre V8, and in conjunction with the electronically-adjustable suspension with active roll stabilisation, the B7 Bi-Turbo promises to offer a spectrum of driving experiences so varied as to be unheard of in this class of automobiles.

The evolution of the traditional 20-spoke 21″ ALPINA CLASSIC wheels underline the fresh design language found throughout the B7 Bi-Turbo and impart it a distinctive appearance and powerful stance.

Powertrain

The Bi-Turbo model designation that now graces this flagship BMW ALPINA saloon hints at even more powerful and torque-laden performance over its predecessor, while simultaneously improving upon fuel economy.

The fully-aluminium, 4395 cm3 V8 aggregate yields 507 peak horsepower (373 kW) at a moderate 5500rpm, with a maximum torque of 700 Nm available between 3000-4750rpm.

Two especially for the ALPINA powerplant constructed turbochargers with generously-dimensioned turbine vanes are responsible for the forced induction. Thorough exploitation of the engine’s potential was achieved by means of optimising the indirect intercooler (air-water/water-air) with its short intake paths and flow-optimised intercooler tracts.

High-performance pistons are at work in the cylinders, carefully developed to harmonise with a compression of 9.2:1 and a maximum turbo boost of 1.0 bar. The result is a formidable specific output of 115hp (85kW) per litre, with a maximum average compression of 20.1 bar, a benchmark even amongst established sportscars.

One look at the torque and power diagram is enough to highlight that the B7 Bi-Turbo will accelerate fiercely and effortlessly from very low revs. Peak torque is available from an unusually broad range of rpm’s, ranging from 3,000 to 4,750 rpm. This wide powerband coupled with the exquisitely geared ZF six-speed automatic sport transmission pampers the occupants with remarkably high levels of smooth drivetrain comfort in every driving situation.

The ALPINA SWITCH-TRONIC, which has been programmed to shift exceptionally smooth and comfortable in Automatic mode, offers different shift characteristics for every taste and situation thanks to the additional Sport and Manual modes. Driving the B7 Bi-Turbo becomes an altogether different experience when using the buttons found on the back of the steering wheel for manually selecting the gears of the automatic transmission. This ensures shifts take place within a few hundred milliseconds and with only minimal interruption to the transmission of power, favourably comparable even to the best twin-clutch transmissions. As a result, the B7 Bi-Turbo sprints from 0-100 km/h in 4.7 seconds, vehemently pressing on to an electronically-limited 280 km/h top speed.

Chassis & Suspension

Long gone are the days when a purely “hard and sporty” ride was a sought-after attribute of suspension set-ups. Striving for truly neutral handling continues to be the intelligent way forward, yielding the best of what is technologically feasible.

In pursuit of this goal, marginally shorter and uniquely calibrated springs reduce front and rear ride height by 15mm and 10mm respectively. Together with the 21″ wheel and tyre combination the suspension is at once sensitive to inputs and direct in its feel, yet free from the harshness of a purely sports-oriented suspension, imparting this large saloon with an agility usually only associated with much smaller sports saloons. The light-weight 21″ wheels, with their new interpretation of the ALPINA CLASSIC wheel design, are shod with an especially selected staggered MICHELIN tyre set-up: 245/35 R21 front and 285/30 R21 rear. Foregoing Run-Flat technology, conventional tyres are used to ensure a supple, comfortable finesse that is rare today.

ALPINA have integrated state-of-the-art electronic suspension technologies, skilfully and subtly adjusting them to the demanding requirements of our customers. As part of the B7 Bi-Turbo standard equipment, the electronic suspension system with Dynamic Damping Control and Dynamic Drive (active roll stabilisation) enable the driver to select from three distinct suspension set-ups: Comfort, Normal and Sport. The B7 Bi-Turbo offers the driver unheard-of versatility, delivering on long-distance comfort just as readily as on back-road pace, always with a maximum of enjoyment and safety.

Design

At once dynamic, graceful and potent - the silhouette of the B7 Bi-Turbo is significantly influenced by the evolutionary new design of the 21″ ALPINA CLASSIC wheels. A turbine-like three-dimensional curve guides each of the 20 spokes from the centre of the wheel to the rim, at which point they have a milled surface. Depending on the angle of the viewer, the rotational speed of the wheels and the light, the appearance of these classic wheels is constantly changing. Of course they continue to possess the refined tyre air valves, safely and attractively hidden away behind the lockable wheel covers.

In true “form-follows-function” fashion, the typical ALPINA front integrates the fresh-air requirements of the transmission and engine oil coolers, which are separated out of the main cooler module for improved efficiency. The design of the front and rear spoiler follows clearly aerodynamically-oriented interests, reducing lift at the front and rear by 30% and 15% respectively. Left and right, the exhaust system’s two double tailpipes are seamlessly integrated into the rear valance and are witness to the B7 Bi-Turbo’s potency.

When climbing into the B7 Bi-Turbo, one immediately takes note of the ALPINA door sill trims which are finely illuminated in blue. The SWITCH-TRONIC steering wheel is gloved and hand-stitched in the finest, most comfortable LAVALINA leather. In the driver’s line of sight, red pointers over a field of blue dials grace the instrument cluster, where a Black-Panel LCD screen is responsible for communicating driver-important information.

Exclusive interior luxury wood trim in the form of Myrtle Burl, a knotted burl of the Laurel only found on the Pacific Coast of the United States, provides a warm and traditional ambience. Optional ALPINA Piano Lacquer interior trim with its silver diagonal rhombs, offers a modern and just as exclusive alternative.

Nonetheless, you can get your real-life look at the 510-hp Aston Martin V12 Vantage right here. 0 to 62 mph run comes in just 4.2 seconds (0 to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds) with a top speed of 190 mph.

Aston Martin will limit production to 1,000 units. Deliveries of the V12 Vantage will begin in the third-quarter of 2009.

BMW launches minisite for X6 M and X5 M, only 30 days until unveiling

You’ve seen prototypes of the upcoming BMW X5 M and the X6 M. BMW has now launched a minisite counting down to the unveiling of the two new M models. According to the site, there are only 30 days until we see the first ever ‘M’ BMW SUVs.

The 200-hp Ford Fiesta ST was expected to join the Fiesta hatchback lineup later this year but ford has put a hold on the project due to it current financial situation.

“Now is not the right time for a Fiesta ST,” a source told Autocar. “We may have a better opportunity to make the ST later on in the car’s life, when Ford’s direct-injection petrol engines are ready and the range would benefit more from the extra interest surrounding such a car.”

The source said that the a Fiesta ST may not happen until 2012.

GM CEO Rick Wagoner made $5.5 million in 2008

According to documents filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission today, General Motors’ CEO Rick Wagoner was paid a total of $5.5 million in 2008. Wagoner received a salary of $2.1 million and earned no bonuses last year.
His total 2008 compensation is down from his $14.1 million compensation in 2007, and 2009 isn’t looking any better [...]

COO Fredrick Fritz Henderson received $1.7 million in 2008 down from $7.2 million in 2007. CFO Ray Young raked in $1.5 million last year and will take a 30 percent pay cut along with other GM executives on May 1.

2009 Geneva: 2010 Lotus Exige S gets a facelift

The Exige S continues to be powered by a 240-hp engine with a Magnuson/Eaton M62 supercharger. That helps the 2010 Exige S spring from 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds with atop speed of 145-mph.

However, with all that power and speed, the Lotus Exige S is still pushing some impressive fuel-economy figures. Lotus says that the combined fuel-economy has been increased to an impressive 8.5 litres/100 km (or 28 mpg in U.S. terms).

The 2010 Exige S will go on sale in EU markets in 2009.

The New Lotus Exige S - 2010 Model Year

The 79th International Geneva Motor Show sees the introduction of the exciting new 2010 Model Year Lotus Exige S with a newly designed front end, a new rear wing and impressive emissions of just 199 g/km CO2.

The Lotus Exige is a renowned high performance coupe that has a well earned reputation of choice for drivers who demand uncompromised performance, both on the road and on the track.

Lotus has always pursued efficiency and fuel economy and for the 2010 Model Year Lotus Exige S, Lotus has reduced the emissions to only 199 g/km CO2 and increased the fuel economy to an impressive 8.5 litres/100 km on the Official European Combined Cycle and a frugal 6.5 litres/100 km on the Official European Extra Urban Cycle.

The 2010 Model Year also sees the introduction of a few key changes to the Exige to enhance the look and improve aerodynamic performance.

A restyled front end and new larger, rear wing that not only reduces drag, but also gives a more muscular stance enhancing the lightweight shrink-wrapped look of the whole car.

The composite rear wing is based on the design from the Exige GT3 road car concept shown at the Geneva Motorshow in 2007. Compared to the 2009 Model Year Exige tailgate mounted wing it is 181 mm wider and mounted 46 mm higher and 61 mm further back. It is attached to the rear bodyshell clam via rear end plates which not only increases the stiffness of the whole structure but also ensures that as much of the airflow as possible passes over the rear wing. This careful airflow management increases stability, reduces drag and, most importantly, maintains the impressive downforce figures of 42 kg at 160 km/h.

The restyled front end includes a larger, more angular air intake mouth to help funnel more air through the radiator, to improve the efficiency of the engine system. Ahead of the front wheels on either side of the main aperture, two larger air intakes increase the airflow to the twin oil coolers. Horizontal vanes bisect these oil cooler air-intakes to stabilise the airflow to further increase the cooling efficiency.

Since the Exige S2 was launched in 2004, the power has increased from 190 hp through 220 hp to 240 hp in standard road form – more for the track centric Exige Cup 260 - and the new larger air intakes improve engine cooling for these current higher powered Exige variants.

Mounted below the three new air intakes is a new aerodynamic splitter for the 2010 Model Year Exige. Made from a lightweight composite, the splitter is now extended to wrap around the whole of the front end and chiseled side lips are raised to deflect air around the tyres to reduce drag.

Mike Kimberley, Chief Executive of Group Lotus plc said, “Over the years, the Lotus Exige has developed a hardcore fan base around the world and its popularity has placed it as one of the legendary sportscars of the 21st century. So far, over 5000 Exiges have been hand-built at our high-tech manufacturing facility making it a significant contributor to our global production. The lightweight Exige has one of the highest specific power outputs of any globally emissions certified car and 133 hp per litre is a perfect demonstration of Colin Chapman’s philosophy of performance through light weight and of Lotus’ relentless pursuit of efficiency. The same technology that makes a lightweight car a high performer also makes it efficient – how many cars have performance figures of 0 – 100 km/h in 4.77 secs but produce only 199 g/km CO2?”

Like all Lotus cars, the functional components of the car are also beautifully designed as Russell Carr, Chief of Lotus Design, explains, “For 2010 we have taken the already visually extreme Exige and given it even more visual drama. The changes we have integrated into the front and rear of the Exige signal an even clearer and purposeful intent. The purposeful rear wing is race inspired, the new angular air intakes and full width splitter gives a more hard-edged and aggressive look. Overall, the Exige appears more planted and gives the illusion that both the front and rear of the car are wider than they really are without losing its agile and lithe character.”

Roger Becker, Director of Vehicle Engineering said, “The changes we have made to the Exige for 2010 Model Year are quite subtle when taken individually, but taken as a complete package they make significant improvements to aerodynamics and the overall look of the car. The Exige is a classic fit-for-purpose performance machine, the design tweaks we have made have reduced the drag, cleaned up the airflow around the front and rear of the car, whilst retaining the impressive balanced downforce figures, to give an exciting high performance drive.”

The specification of the highly successful 2009 Model Year Exige Cup 260, unveiled at the Paris Motorshow in 2008 remains unchanged.

The 2010 Exige in more detail:

Driver and passenger airbags are standard on all models while an on-board Tyre Pressure Monitoring System is standard in the USA.

The instrument pack in the Exige contains much more than just a pair of stylishly back-lit dials. It also features a high-definition LCD message panel that can display a scrolling text message with vehicle systems information.

The instrument pack always displays the fuel gauge, engine temperature and odometer, however you can select to display the time, trip distance or a digital read-out of your speed in the opposite calibration to that of your speedometer dial – if your dial is in mph, the readout is in km/h.

Warning symbols are ‘secret until lit’, keeping the instrumentation free from visual clutter and distraction until necessary. Gearchange ‘shift’ lights similarly remain hidden until required. There are three shift up warning lights, cumulatively lighting when the driver is getting closer to the rev limiter and when all three are illuminated, they flash to indicate that you should have changed up a gear by now!

A “key” issue

The Exige has a “Thatcham approved” alarm/immobiliser system and the ignition key incorporates the controls for the alarm/immobiliser and central locking functions. This key features three buttons, the one which locks the doors and sets the alarm/immobiliser is stylishly crowned with the famous Lotus roundel. The second button unlocks the doors and de-actives the alarm/immobiliser, and the final button is a panic alarm button.

The contents of the Touring pack, for the Exige S includes:

- Full leather or Microfibre suede-effect interior

- Leather trimmed centre console

- Leather handbrake gaiter

- Sound system iPod* connection

- Full carpets, with embroidered logo

- Auxiliary driving lights (in markets where legally allowed)

The Exige S Sport pack includes:

- Traction control

- Adjustable front anti-roll bar

- T45 roll bar, with integrated harness mounts

The Exige S Performance Pack – more punch, more ability for Exige S

- 308 mm front cross-drilled and vented discs with AP Racing four piston callipers

- Uprated front and rear brake pads

- Full length upsized roof scoop

- Variable slip traction control

- Uprated clutch plate and cover

- Uprated vehicle performance through enhanced power and torque delivery

- Launch control

With the Exige performance pack, the power is raised to 240 PS / 179 kW (minimum) at 8000 rpm courtesy of a Magnuson/Eaton M62 supercharger, new faster flowing injectors and higher torque clutch system and an upsized roof scoop to feed more air to the supercharger intercooler system.

This hike in power, together with an increase in torque to 170 lbft / 230 Nm / 23.5 kgm at 5,500 rpm from the standard 158.6 lbft / 215 Nm / 22 kgm at 5500 rpm, helps whisk the Performance Pack Exige S from zero to 60mph in 4.5 secs and 0-100km/h in 4.77 secs, and on to 100mph in 11.97 secs. Top speed rises to 145 mph. The power and torque of the 240 PS engine is increased across the rev range giving even more flexibility. Despite these high levels of performance the fuel economy is impressive with a new combined figure of 8.5 litres / 100 km and 199 g/km CO2 – reduced from 9.1 litres / 100 km (combined) and 216 g/km CO2 for the 2009 Model Year Exige. Continuous engineering improvements over the last year including careful whole vehicle optimisation has enabled this sportscar to be even better for fuel economy and emissions.

Of course the increased power and straight-line performance are only a couple of elements of the Performance Pack option. The clutch is uprated and a clutch damper fitted; there are thicker, 308mm diameter cross-drilled and vented discs at the front clamped by AP Racing four-piston callipers; the standard brake pads are replaced by uprated pads.

Keen to pass on lessons learned on the track with the Exige GT3 racing programme, Lotus Sport has contributed another important track specific technology to the Performance Pack – launch control combined with variable traction control.

From the driver’s seat the track orientated launch control allows you to determine the engine revs you wish to use during a standing start on the track. Having programmed that limit, it will not be exceeded when you then hold down the throttle and sidestep the clutch at departure from the line. The clutch damper cushions the severity of the clutch / transmission engagement to minimise the stresses to the drivetrain (noting that continuous abusive standing start applications will destroy the drivetrain components). The launch control also keeps wheelspin at bay until 6 mph, after which the traction control assumes its duties.

As with launch control, you can dial in the amount of traction control you require from the driver’s seats, altering it on the move to suit driving style and the characteristics of particular corners. The amount of traction control can be varied in over 30 increments from an optimum 7 percent tyre slip to completely off. The message display in the new instrument pack displays what degree of traction control you have currently dialled in.

The beauty of all the packs is that they can be combined so a customer can have the additional interior and exterior equipment from the Touring pack with the sport focussed equipment from the Sport pack.

Air conditioning, Lotus traction control and limited slip differential are available as stand-alone options.

Customers wanting to add further finishing touches to their Exige – such as specifying adjustable dampers and forged wheels can do so by ordering from an extensive range of accessories.

Colours

The Premium Colour Range has been designed to further enhance the choice for customers to individualise their cars. Most of the paints in this range require a more sophisticated application process and are from our paint supplier’s premium range. The paint colours in this range have been individually priced, and it is Lotus’ intention to extend and change this range at periodic intervals.

Ford plans on introducing its first battery-electric vehicle in 2010 with a battery-powered version of the 2010 Ford Transit Connect commercial vehicle. A rival to the Chevrolet Volt in a form of a compact battery-electric car will arrive in 2011. Ford says that the next-generations of its hybrid vehicles will come in 2012 along with plug-in hybrid versions by 2012.

“You’ll see more hybrids, but you will really see a lot more electric vehicles,” he said.

The amount of the loan or the timing of the request to Japan Bank for International Cooperation hasn’t been decided yet; however, spokesman Toyota Tanaka for Mazda said that the automaker is seriously considering requesting a government loan.

Honda, which reported a 38 percent drop in U.S. sales for February 2009, may request up to 10 billion yen ($102 million USD). Toyota was reported to be seeking $2.1 billion.

Chrysler’s employee pricing program extended through March

GM COO on Chrysler merger: We set it aside

According to GM COO Fritz Henderson, GM has not thought of reviving merger talks with Chrysler since calling off the negotiations at the end of last year, reports Automotive News.

“We set it aside, it continues to be set aside,” Henderson told reporters at the 2009 Geneva Auto Show.

In its viability plan submitted to the U.S. Treasury on Feb. 17, Chrysler said that it believes merging with GM is the best available option for it to survive.

Joining the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano HGTE Package is the new Ferrari 599XX, a car aimed at a select group of clients incorporating the most advanced technologies from Ferrari’s road-going and F1 research. Based on the 599 GTB Fiorano, the 599XX is an extreme track car.

Modification include a boost in the maximum revs to 9,000 rpms that help get all the power from the V12 700-hp engine to the road. Ferrari says that it paid particular attention to cutting the weight of the engine components with the use of a new new crankshaft and the use of carbon fiber for the intakes. A new gearbox transfers power to the wheels with gearchange time cut down to 60 ms.

For those lucky select group of clients, Ferrari will organize a program of dedicated track events in 2010/2011.

Ferrari at Geneva with the HGTE package for the 599 GTB Fiorano and the world premiere of the 599XX

599XX

While based on the 599 GTB Fiorano with the same transaxle layout and engine type, this prototype is an extreme track car. Ferrari’s engineers have carried out extensive work on the engine’s combustion chambers and inlet and exhaust tracts. These modifications, combined with the fact that internal attrition has been reduced and the maximum revs have been boosted to 9,000 rpm, helped achieve the target power output of 700 hp at 9,000 rpm. Particular attention was also paid to cutting the weight of the engine unit components. This was achieved both by optimising forms - as in the new crankshaft - and adopting exclusive materials, as in the carbon-fibre used for the intake plenums. A new gearbox shift strategy cuts overall gearchange times to 60 ms.

The 599XX is characterised by an innovative electronic concept called the “High Performance Dynamic Concept” which has been designed to get the maximum performance from the car by managing the combination of the car’s mechanical limits with the potential of its electronic controls. The mechanical and electronic systems work together to get the maximum performance from the car under extreme high performance driving, for consistent lap times. The sporty handling has been improved thanks to the adoption of second generation SCM suspension system. Track usage is also made easier thanks to the new “virtual car engineer”, a screen in the car that provides a real-time indication of the vehicle’s efficiency.

The 599XX’s aerodynamics were honed in numerous wind tunnel test sessions with the result that the car now boasts 280 kg of downforce at 200 km/h (630 kg at 300 km/h). The front underside of the body is completely faired-in and the vents that channel hot air from the engine bay have been moved to the bonnet.

The “Actiflow” system increases downforce and/or cuts drag depending on the car’s trim cornering conditions, courtesy of the use of a porous material in the diffuser and two fans in the boot which channel the air flow from under the car out through two grilles next to the tail-lights. Winglets have been added to the rear buttresses to increase downforce. while synthetic jets have also been incorporated into the rear of the car to control and smooth the air flow and to reduce drag.

Ferrari’s engineers have also used F1-derived “doughnuts” which partly cover the brake discs and wheel rim. These have the dual function of improving both aerodynamics and brake cooling.

In terms of the bodywork, composites and carbon-fibre have been widely used and the engineers drew on their experience in working with aluminium to reach the weight target. The development of increasingly high-performance materials has also benefited the carbon-ceramic material braking system. The brake pads are now made from carbon-fibre which means that the calipers are smaller whilst guaranteeing the same efficiency. The new racing carbon ceramic braking system also delivers shorter braking distances and is generally more efficient due to the weight saving.

The 599XX comes with slick tyres (29/67 R19 Front and 31/71 R19 Rear) specifically developed to maximise stability in cornering and increase lateral acceleration. They are fitted to 19 x 11J wheel rims at the front and 19 x 12J at the rear.

Toyota has unveiled its brand new Verso MPV at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show offering European customers more space, comfort and flexibility.

The interior of the new Toyota Verso features an Easy Flat-7 folding system which allows for five rear seats allowing for a total of 7-passengers to ride in the Verso at one time. Toyota says that it has improved the design to offer more room behind the third row of seats for luggage.

With the help of Toyota Optimal Drive technology power has been increased across the range by 20 percent. Fuel-economy and emissions have also improved by 12 percent. The 2009 Toyota Verso will be offered with a new 1.6 and 1.8 Valvematic gasoline engine. They will be offered with a 6-speed manual as standard or a Multidrive S automatic as an option on the 1.8 variant. A revised version of the 2.0L D-4D diesel will also be available. The new diesel option is a 2.2 D-CAT engine with new 6-speed automatic transmission (will join the lineup next year).

Toyota will build the 2009 Verso at its facility in Turkey.

Power comes from a 1.6 GDi 4-cylinder turbocharged gasoline unit that produces 168-hp mated to ISG (Idle Stop & Go) technology and a double-clutch 6-speed transmission.

The sensational all-new Hyundai ix-onic concept car, which makes its world premiere at the 79th Salon International de L’Automobile in Geneva, introduces a whole new look for a compact 4×4 SUV.

Assertive, but not aggressive, the ix-onic (pronounced “ik-sonnik”) combines dynamic, sculpted, performance-oriented styling with an environmentally-friendly power train and thoughtful everyday utility, to create a vehicle that will change the way consumers and especially younger car buyers think about compact crossover vehicles.

Hyundai’s design team in Rüsselsheim, Germany views ix-onic as an ‘urban nomad, a car of contrasts for a world of contrasts’. Created in Europe, with European consumers in mind, the new concept is inspired by multi-cultural personalities of cities like Berlin, Paris and London. The ix-onic is tough and compact for life in the city, but sleek and agile for out-of-town travel.

The ix-onic’s specially developed, high-contrast exterior paint emphasises its dynamic and flowing lines. Employing an advanced-effect pigment, the innovative paint gives the car’s skin a brilliant shine.

With an overall length of 4,400mm, the 1,850mm-wide and 1,650mm-high ix-onic has a great stance and road presence. The design team fused a light, elegant and sporty upper body, with belt lines flowing off both the front and rear wheel arches, to a tough, planted lower body so that the concept is assertive in the way it sits on the road.

Key attributes of Hyundai’s ‘dynamic sculpture’ design philosophy are the athleticism and sophistication that ix-onic demonstrates through its dynamic and flowing lines, full surfaces and muscular presence. This athletic design language is highlighted by bold, dynamic graphic elements such as the hexagonal front grille, the dramatically swept back headlamps, the split belt-line and the third side window kick-up.

LED Daytime Running Lights boost brand identity

The hexagonal grille is a further evolution of the style introduced on the 2006 Genus concept car and developed for its appearance on the i-mode concept in 2008. The headlamps feature innovative LED daytime running lights (DRL) which are becoming an increasingly important element of brand identity. For the innovative ix-onic, part of the DRL moves down whenever ‘dipped beam’ is switched on, and DRL are also fitted to the door mirror housings.

The profile of ix-onic features a dynamic greenhouse and a sports car-like theme with a muscular, double-zigzag treatment for the wheel arches that wrap around the 21-inch polished alloy wheels. Unusually, the concave sills have a wedge-shaped profile which extends rearwards and wraps around into the rear bumper. The sills and bumper are finished in a contrasting colour, with an aluminium garnish that echoes the aluminium trim in the door handles to enhance the perception of premium quality.

With high-mounted tail lamps, multi-surfaced glass and a sculpted bumper, the rear of ix-onic also incorporates ‘dynamic design’ elements. The rear lamp clusters feature a grille mesh inspired by the nature, while the rear bumper also neatly incorporates the dual, polished aluminium exhaust tailpipes.

The rear window has been designed and produced by Hyundai in close cooperation with the QarmaQ-partner SABIC Innovative Plastics. Using Lexan high-performance plastics instead of conventional glass enabled the designers to give the rear window a much more three-dimensional shape. On each side of the rear window, two vertical spoilers are integrated to reduce aerodynamic drag. The upper part of the window features a strongly concave shape to make it possible to integrate the roof spoiler in the rear window. Additionally, “Exatec- glazing” was used to incorporate the third stoplight in the upper part of the rear window. Furthermore, a three-dimensional U-shape surrounds the rear wiper to enhance its visual integration into the backlight.

Light and fresh interior seats five in luxurious comfort

Inside, the five-seater ix-onic offers a commanding view of the road and evokes an adventurous ambience that is also laid-back and relaxing. The needs of the driver are fully accommodated, with the interior blending aspects of the outdoors, leisure time and an urban lifestyle.

The first impression of a sporty, light and fresh interior is reinforced on closer inspection by the silky cream-white leather that brings an air of elegance and distinction to the cabin.

An X-shaped visual theme is repeated across numerous areas of the cabin, with embossed leather to accentuate key areas while light-alloy magnesium accents provide flashes of visual brilliance. The sleek shapes of the interior are outlined with ‘ice blue’ seams that replicate the colour of both the ribbed ice blue floor carpet, which contains a high percentage of natural cashmere wool, and the exterior.

Shapely seats feature centre panels trimmed in breathable fabric with attractive and functional cushion side bolsters, plus additional lateral support for occupants’ shoulders – all trimmed in contrasting magnesium grey.

Mounted much higher than usual in the doors, the audio speakers present occupants with a true and highly detailed, top-quality sound reproduction. The interior rear-view mirror has a ‘blind spot’ warning light that alerts the driver to other road users in close proximity.

All-new power train ensures performance lives up to appearance

Beneath its sensational exterior, the ix-onic’s power train is equipped with a 170 PS, 1.6-litre GDi turbocharged, four-cylinder petrol engine, with ISG (Idle Stop & Go) technology and a double-clutch six-speed transmission. Power is transferred to the road by an intelligent four-wheel-drive system fine-tuned to deliver outstanding on-road driving dynamics, together with significant off-road ability. The next-generation, eco-friendly engine emits just 149 g/km of CO2, an impressive figure for an SUV.

Ford Credit also has commenced a separate $500 million cash tender offer to purchase Ford’s senior secured term loan debt (the “Term Loan Debt”), of which $6.9 billion aggregate principal amount is outstanding, under Ford’s secured Credit Agreement (the “Credit Agreement’) dated December 15, 2006. No debt securities of Ford Credit are included in these tender offers.

“The tender offers we are announcing today will play a key role in supporting Ford’s plan to create a healthy, profitable enterprise,” said Ford Credit Chairman and CEO Mike Bannister. “It is in Ford Credit’s best interest to advance Ford’s long-term financial stability as it will strengthen our ability to profitably support the sale of Ford products.”

Any Notes acquired by Ford Credit will be retired in settlement of existing intercompany tax liabilities to Ford or in distributions to Ford. Any Term Loan Debt acquired by Ford Credit is expected to be distributed to its parent, Ford Holdings LLC, and forgiven. These payments and distributions by Ford Credit are consistent with its previously announced plans to return capital to Ford.

Notes Cash Tender Offer

Ford Credit is offering to purchase the Notes (the “Notes Tender Offer”) on terms and conditions that are set forth in an offer to purchase dated March 4, 2009 (the “Notes Offer to Purchase”) and the related letter of transmittal (the “Notes Letter of Transmittal”), both of which are being sent to holders of the Notes.

Ford Credit is offering to purchase the Notes set forth in the table below for an aggregate purchase price of up to $1.3 billion (the “Maximum Notes Tender Amount”). If the aggregate purchase price for Notes that are validly tendered exceeds the Maximum Notes Tender Amount, Ford Credit will accept for payment only the aggregate principal amount of Notes that does not result in an aggregate purchase price above the Maximum Notes Tender Amount, and the Notes will be purchased in accordance with the Acceptance Priority Level (in numerical priority order) as set forth in the table below (the “Acceptance Priority Level”).

All Notes tendered having a higher Acceptance Priority Level will be accepted before any tendered Notes having a lower Acceptance Priority Level are accepted. If there are sufficient remaining funds to purchase some, but not all, of the Notes of an applicable Acceptance Priority Level, the amount of Notes purchased in that priority level will be prorated based on the aggregate principal amount tendered with respect to the applicable Acceptance Priority Level. In that event, Notes of any other series with a lower Acceptance Priority Level than the prorated series of Notes will not be accepted for purchase.

The “Notes Tender Offer Consideration” for each $25.00 face amount of the 7.50% Notes due June 10, 2043, each $1,000 face amount of the 7.45% GLOBLS due July 16, 2031, 6 5/8% Debentures due October 1, 2028, 6 3/8% Debentures due February 1, 2029, 8.900% Debentures due January 15, 2032, and 9.980% Debentures due February 15, 2047 and each $5,000 face amount of each other series of the Notes set forth in the table below tendered and accepted for purchase pursuant to the Notes Tender Offer will be the applicable tender offer consideration for each series of Notes set forth in the table below. The “Notes Total Consideration” includes the Notes Tender Offer Consideration plus the early tender premium for each series of Notes set forth in the table below (the “Notes Early Tender Premium” and, together with the Notes Tender Offer Consideration, the “Notes Total Consideration”).

Holders of Notes must tender their Notes before 5:00 p.m., New York City time, on Thursday, March 19, 2009, unless extended (such date and time, as the same may be extended, the “Notes Early Tender Time”) to be eligible to receive the Notes Total Consideration. Holders who tender their Notes after the Notes Early Tender Time will be eligible to receive only the Notes Tender Offer Consideration.

The Notes Tender Offer will expire at 9:00 a.m., New York City time, on Friday, April 3, 2009, unless extended or earlier terminated (such date and time, as the same may be extended, the “Expiration Time”). Notes tendered pursuant to the offer may not be withdrawn, unless otherwise required by law.

The complete terms and conditions of the Notes Tender Offer are set forth in the Notes Offer to Purchase and the Notes Letter of Transmittal that are being sent to holders of the Notes. Holders are urged to read the Notes Tender Offer documents carefully when they become available. Copies of the Notes Offer to Purchase and Notes Letter of Transmittal may be obtained from the Information Agent for the Notes Tender Offer, Global Bondholder Services Corporation, by calling (866) 470-4300.

Consummation of the Notes Tender Offer is subject to, and conditioned upon the satisfaction or, where applicable, waiver of certain conditions set forth in the Notes Offer to Purchase. Ford Credit may amend, extend, or terminate the Notes Tender Offer at any time.

Cash Tender Offer for Senior Secured Term Loan Debt

Ford Credit also has commenced a $500 million cash tender offer (the “Term Loan Offer”) to purchase Ford’s Term Loan Debt. The Term Loan Offer will be conducted on a “Dutch auction” basis whereby term loan lenders will be invited to submit bids to sell their Term Loan Debt within a price range of not less than 38% of par, nor greater than 47% of par. Term loan lenders will receive the lowest price within the range (the “Clearing Price”) at which Ford Credit can complete the Term Loan Offer for $500 million. If the aggregate purchase price for Term Loan Debt tendered exceeds $500 million, Ford Credit will (i) purchase at the Clearing Price all Term Loan Debt tendered at a price below the Clearing Price and (ii) purchase Term Loan Debt tendered at the Clearing Price on a pro-rated basis.

Consummation of the Term Loan Offer is subject to, and conditioned upon the satisfaction or, where applicable, waiver of certain conditions set forth in the offer to purchase.

If the amount of Notes and Term Loan Debt tendered results in a payment by Ford Credit of less than $1.8 billion aggregate consideration, Ford Credit may apply such remaining cash to the repurchase of other debt of Ford through tender offers, exchange offers, privately negotiated transactions, open market purchases or otherwise, or may distribute such cash to Ford for such purpose, subject to any applicable restrictions.

At the end of last year, it was reported that they GT by Citroen could be headed for a limited production of 20 units. According to AutoCar, Citroen product head Vincent Besson, the Citroen GT super concept has now been confirmed for production.

The concept was original designed to be in the Gran Turismo 5 video game but according to Besson, the concept has received huge positive feedback. “We are now thinking of a limited run, possibly as many as 20 units,” Besson told the publication.

Besson did not confirm any specs for the Citroen GT but confirmed that power is likely to come from a GM or Ford V8.

“Electric mobility does have a place in the long-term future,” Winterkorn told Automotive News Europe. However, he said that safe and affordable electric-vehicles for daily use are “very far away.”

“We’re concerned with the best solution, not the fastest solution,” Winterkorn said.

The V-dub CEO said that combustion engines will remain the main powerplant for passenger vehicles for at least 15 to 20 years. He said that Volkswagen will continue to focus on the “further optimization of the combustion engine.”

Schwarzenbauer told Automotive News that time may be right for an allroad in the United States. Audi previously sold an A6 version of the allroad quattro in North America from 2000 to 2005.

The 2010 Audi A4 allroad quattro will be available in Europe later this summer with three engine choices including from a 211-hp 2.0L TFSI 4-cylinder and a 170-hp 2.0 TDI diesel.

Well, he didn’t exactly give us a personal presentation to the 2010 Audi S5 Cabriolet - because that would be weird and out of character for the Governor of the State of California. Honestly, we can’t help but imagine how he would describe the S5 Cabriolet but we’ll leave that part alone.

Arnold Schwarzenegger was hanging out at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show and spent a considerable time hanging out at the Audi booth checking out the new TT RS and the S5 Cabriolet. We’re not sure if he was in town for business or just checking out the show; nonetheless, it’s always fun having the Terminator on hand.

Schwarzenegger along with others that are interested can order a 256-hp 2010 Audi A5 Cabriolet at the end of this year. Of course, we’re guessing the ex-Hollywood star and Governor of California would much rather go for the 333-hp 2010 Audi S5 Cabriolet.

We’re guessing the folks at the Tesla stand weren’t too happy to see Schwarzenegger spending too much time with Audi.

Of course, that means keeping an easy force on the accelerator which gives the 510-hp 6.0L V12 the ability to push the DBS Volante from 0 to 62 mph in 4.3 seconds. Power is transferred to the wheels by a 6-speed manual or Aston’s new Touchtronic 2 6-speed transmission.

Deliveries for the Aston Martin DBS Volante will begin in the third-quarter of 2009. It will make its U.S. debut at the 2009 New York Auto Show.

Giugiaro has teamed up with Fazer-Nash to build its latest concept known as the Namir - Arabian for tiger. Known as the “fastest hybrid in the world” you would probably think that the Namir isn’t that eco-friendly - well you’ll be surprised.

Fazer-Nash, a company that specializes in the design and construction of hybrid system has built a 814 cc rotary engine with four electric motors that are powered by lithium-ion batteries. That allows the Namir to produce a total of 362-hp allowing for a 0 to 62 mph time of 3.5 seconds with a top speed of 187 mph.

However, the Fazer-Nash Namir by Giugiaro returns an outstanding 92 mpg (U.S.) How? Well it’s all a concept and a study right now so if Fazer-Nash and Giugiaro actually build a production version - we’ll figure that one out.

FRAZER-NASH NAMIR BY GIUGIARO The fastest and most ecological hybrid in the world

Namir is a concept car born of the collaboration between Italdesign Giugiaro and Frazer-Nash, a company specialized in the design, construction, and marketing of hybrid systems deeply rooted in the historical automotive manufacturing company founded in England by Archie Frazer-Nash in 1923.

Presented during the 79th edition of the International Motor Show in Geneva, Namir represents the turning of a new page in the book being written by the Torino-based firm since 2004, opening with the Alessandro Volta project and followed up with the commemorative dream car – Quaranta - the result of research and development on sports cars fuelled by hybrid systems produced last year in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the company’s founding.

The Arabian name Namir, meaning “tiger”, sums up the main features of the concept car: elegance and power, aggressiveness and litheness of lines. Without any doubt it is a sports car: a coupé with two bucket seats and an accurate equilibrium between style and mechanics, aesthetics and contents. The sophisticated mechanics as well as the avant-garde electric and electronics systems are wrapped up into an aggressive package with an exquisitely balanced proportion of volumes and a stunning contrast between the sharp accents of the rear end and the sinuous front lines that emphasise this supercar’s performance: over 300 km/h (187 mph) at maximum speed and an acceleration of 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds and from 0 to 200km/h in 10.4 seconds, making this the fastest hybrid car in the world.

Namir is also an ecological vehicle. The hybrid system developed together with Frazer-Nash combines an 814 cc endothermic rotary engine with four electric motors, guaranteeing autonomy of 39 km with one litre of fuel CO2 emissions of less than 60 grams per km travelled.

Namir is not merely an exercise in style in and of itself, but rather a fully developed project followed in each and every phase by the Torino-based firm: chassis, body, and mechanical layout were designed and constructed by the Engineering Division, the exterior and interior style was entrusted to the Italdesign Giugiaro Style Centre, while the electrical and electronic elements were developed in collaboration with Frazer-Nash.

The prototype was built entirely in the Italdesign Giugiaro plant.

The new Maserati GranTurismo S is powered by a 4.7L V8 producing 440-hp with 361 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated to a ZF 6-speed automatic gearbox for those that don’t like the hassle of changing gears (to us it’s mandatory - not a hassle.

Other than that the GranTurismo S Automatic gets 20-inch wheels, Bluetooth as standard with an optional iPod interface that completes the Maserati Multi Media System.
