Michelin Design Challenge: Baja 1000 buggy

Designer Dong Trang’s Baja 1000 buggy is the winner of the 2009 Michelin Challenge Design Competition. Built on the concept of ‘Brave and Bold’, the off-road racer uses a combination of clean technologies for power. Tires are moved by in-wheel electric motors inspired by the Francis turbine. Solar panels infused in the body work to provide auxiliary power using the desert sun, and hydrogen fuel cells form the main power source for the all-electric powertrain.

The design of the tires sucks in air to keep the motors cool and the independent suspension ensures smooth movement over large bumps. The concept also features airless tires and LED lights.
