With gas-prices no longer at $4 a gallon General Motors is anticipating the spring selling season by boosting production of the light-truck segment in March. GM said it will restore production on Line 1 in its Flint, Mich., plant for a week during March 16. The company will increase the line speed of Line 1 27.7 jobs per hour to 31.5.
Line 1 at Flint, Mich., is responsible for building the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra heavy-duty crew cab pickups, reports Automotive News.
According to the UAW Local 276 web site, GM also plans to increase line speed at Arlington, Texas in March by 1.5 jobs per hour. That plant builds the Cadillac Escalade and Escalade Hybrid SUVs, Chevrolet Tahoe and Tahoe Hybrid, GMC Yukon and Yukon Hybrid.
As of Jan. 1, GM had a 90-day supply of light trucks. That’s down from a 122-day supply on Dec. 1.
